Maine State Medical Marijuana Program
Maine Medical Marijuana Requirements
Last December the Maine’s medical marijuana program relaxed their patient requirements making access to medical marijuana easier. Previously the state only authorized the use of medical cannabis for a limited number of qualifying conditions, such as cancer or glaucoma. The revised law leaves certification up to the providers discretion (i.e. a provider can write a certification for any condition they feel cannabis can help treat).
A subsequent law went into effect over this past summer loosening reciprocity laws significantly to allow most out-of-state residents to purchase their medicine from Maine distributers. (NOTE: not all states are covered, check out our Maine State Reciprocity post to see if your state has reciprocity)
While certifications can now be written to treat everything from anxiety to Alzheimer’s, there are still requirements to be met:
YOU MUST HAVE A VALID MAINE STATE ID!
A provider can ask for medical records to verify your condition, usually this is done by having you sign a medical release, but you may want to call and see if the provider requires you to bring documentation with you.
While there are many telemedicine options that have sprung up, if you’ve never been certified in the past you must provide a primary care physician to be certified via an online platform.
Medical cannabis has seemingly limitless applications, providing relief for virtually medical conditions and symptoms. There are many benefits to getting your certification, and we hope when you do you’ll come in and see us!
