How to Make the Best Medical Edibles
Here’s how to make your own cannabis butter—but is it worth the effort?
We have all tried (or at least many of us have tried) making our own edibles at home—whether to save money or just as a fun way to spend an evening with friends. Up until fairly recently the tried and true method for most of us was by using butter (or some other lipid such as coconut oil) which binds with the THC in cannabis. But now that concentrates have become increasingly popular, most medible producers have been using dabs or distillate in their confections. This both increases the THC concentration of your additive and allows for more of it—after all, you can only add so much liquid to a recipe.
Adding distillate from a syringe is also a great way to control the dosage of your THC treats. Syringes come pre-measured (usually in a gram or half-gram) and, being in a syringe, it is pretty easy to squirt out a specific amount. This also makes conversion to milligrams relatively simple—1 g = 1000 mg, but keep in mind distillate isn’t 100% THC, so a gram will be around 900mg—just make sure you get it mixed in well or one of your brownies might knock you on your ass while another does nothing!!
So, as promised, here is a recipe for your own butter—but we strongly hope you’ll consider coming in to grab a syringe and try out the difference for yourself!!
1 oz weed/trim
1Stick of butter
Crock pot (filled halfway with water)
High heat 8-12 hours
Strain through cheesecloth
Freeze for an hour
This recipe makes 30 strong edibles.
